On 3/23/16 Al, the jeweler, gave me a quote for my college ring that was higher than another jeweler in Pawleys. That convinced me that my wife and I should go to Christopher's to sell our scrap gold in the future. They also have an advantage over all Horry County jewelers, as recently Horry County is requiring all buyers of scrap gold to have a license before they buy from the public. One jeweler in Murrells Inlet told me that he didn't want to bother with getting that license, and I don't know if it was because of some expense involved, or just the bother of dealing with a county bureaucracy? Anyway, Christopher's belongs to the "Independent Jewelers Organization" which has a "Code of Conduct". Their very first principle is "Deceptive business practises with concerns to representing jewelry and discount pricing is unacceptable." So, not only are they bound to a strict code, but, in my opinion, they are more generous with the amount of money they give to the private sellers of scrap gold. I am a consumer advocate who is on the side of both buyer and seller, so that there is a "win - win" result from both sides ethical behavior. With my limited experience with Christopher's, so far, they appear to fit right into my belief that the buyer and seller are really on the same side, as long as both have a positive Christian code of conduct.
